KARAYA E4805 Shvetsov Ash-82FN/M-82FN engine

The Asz-82 was a Soviet WWII aircraft engine constructed in the Arkady Shvetsov design bureau. It was first launched in 1941. The engine - in the basic version - weighed 860 kilograms with a displacement volume of 41.2 liters. It is estimated that over 70,000 units of this engine were produced.

The Shvetsov Asz-82 was a double-star 14-cylinder radial engine that was air-cooled. The first version of it (Asz-82) was created based on the experience of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), which proved the need for the Soviet air force to have turbocharged engines that would allow combat at high altitudes without loss of power. In 1942, already in the course of the war with the Third Reich, a modernized version (M-82) with a different carburetor model appeared, but it did not gain wider recognition. However, a year later - in 1943 - the Asz-82 FN engine with direct fuel injection entered production, which element was modeled on the solutions used in the German BMW801 engine. It reached a maximum power of 1,850 hp. Various versions of the Shvetsov Asz-82 engine powered such planes as, for example: Tupolev Tu-2, Lavochkin La-5FN or La-7, Petlakov Pe-8 or Ilyushin Il-12.
